Masterclass FAQs
What is a Masterclass?
The Masterclass is a session at a Shooting ground where you are able to improve your shooting through acquiring specific mental routines, working with the leading clay shooting sport scientist Phil Coley and his team. The day is for you to gain new techniques, for you to get an insight into new ideas and proven research. It is a day designed for all levels of clay shooter.
Why at a Shooting Ground?
The session is a combination of both theory - talking through areas such as relaxation, concentration, anxiety control, and the other is on the range, sessions where you can shoot and put the theory into practice. This also will include heart rate monitoring and evaluations.
What will you get out of the day?
The day is designed to give you the tools to go and try new specific exercises designed to improve the mental side of your shooting. Most of all you will go away with a new found confidence in your shooting ability, armed with new tools to use in competition.
Why do you do it in a group?
You can have individual sessions, but we find that working in a group really helps as this stimulates conversation and questions. During the day you will get individual sessions too. It is also more effective when we are working on the range. If you wish to have a private session then this is also available.
Do we get to shoot?
You certainly do get to shoot on the day. Each Masterclass guarantees you shoot 100 clays as part of the day. You will shoot a mini-competition aswell as shooting clays as part of the practical session.
Is it for everyone?
The Masterclass is only for people who really want to do it - those with an open mind, happy to accept new ways and willing to put them into practice.
Do we get coaching too?
On some of our days we are joined by a top coach, although we can arrange coaching as an addition to the day.
What happens on the day and how long is it?
The day starts at 10am, so most people arrive for 10am and we finish at 3.30pm, breaking for a working lunch at 12.30pm. The first hour of the day is covering theory and discussion. Then we actually work on specifics on the range as this encourages a better learning environment. A question and answer session happens over lunch. We then have more practical sessions, finishing with a mini-competition and evaluation. You are welcome to stay afterwards to practice, to have a coaching session or to ask more questions.
Can I attend more?
You certainly can attend more. We run a number of additional Masterclasses for different disciplines and for the more advanced shot.
Can I get support from you?
After your first Masterclass you are invited to join the Clay Shooting Success Mind Foundation where you get to work personally with Phil and his team on an individual basis. There is an annual cost for this and details are available after you have been on the Masterclass.
How does the heart rate sessions work?
Through our many years of research we are able to offer you use of our Clay Shooting Cognitive Program. This software allows us to upload your heart rate details and give you a report on where you sit versus shooters at certain levels in your discipline. The program helps us track your psychological response to certain targets and events. If you choose to take on the Foundation membership, we offer you a year of support and readings.
Do you use video?
We do use video to record our sessions, as this is also used as an evaluation tool. Much of our work looks at physical responses, such as using eye blink and heart rate correlations. We also use video to show on our website, although we ask all those featured if they agree to this.
Are my details confidential?
As with any professional, we have a client/consultant confidentiality clause, so your details remain private and confidential.
Why should I come on a Masterclass, why not go to a Coach?
We work with many top coaches, but we are the leaders in sport science with clay shooting, so if you want to explore the mental side of clay shooting, then we are professionally qualified in that arena. If your challenge is technical then you should consult with a coach. We strongly believe that one person cannot be the oracle on all things, so we actively promote you using a coach for technical aspects.
How much does this cost?
The Masterclass costs are costed per event & location, due to travel etc, especially overseas. This is based on a maximum of 8 people, although we aim for a group of 6. The price includes the Masterclass and Materials. Please see individual days for prices.
When we have a top coach in attendance, we are able to split the groups so we can take a maximum of 12 people.
Do you offer a guarantee?
The simple answer is Yes. If you feel that the day has not been for you, then we fully refund you the cost of the day, no questions asked. We have not yet had such a request.
